Isaiah 49:6 tells the prophet he is to be a light to the nations, and so should each of us that know the grace of the Lord. This is indeed the greater task to which we should aspire. Isaiah was shortsighted and thought he was only a minister to the Hebrews but God said that task was ...Too Small A Thing... and that He would be a witness to the enitre earth. And so he wrote a book we read 2700 years later.

POLICE CHAPLAINCY STUDY

Chaplain Davis is in the process of completion of The Doctor of Ministry Degree at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest North Carolina.

This is a research project involving an extremely important and critical issue of police work. The use of deadly force is for every law enforcement officer one the greatest concerns of being involved in a career of law enforcement.

Officers who have used deadly force as a part of their duty were faced with the incident suddenly and with little circumspection. Training, preparation, and education make the use of deadly force that is both legal and justified not an issue. It is in the aftermath of the incident that questions about the spiritual aspects of involvement in issues of life and death may linger.

Chaplain Davis during the summer of 2008 will be studying and documenting officer’s experiences in this very sensitive yet crucial area of police work.

This is a volunteer study and officer’s who have been involved in the use of deadly force at any time in their career are invited to be a part of the study.

ALL INVOLVEMENT WILL BE CONFIDENTIAL

The logistics of the study involve the use of a written Spiritual Encouragement Exercise (SEE) that can be completed on the internet. After completion of the SEE a one hour counseling session to discuss the issues of the critical incident and the thoughts and spiritual issues will be scheduled with Chaplain Davis. This will be at the officer’s convenience. After the interview the officer will be ask to revisit the SEE with some additional questions.

The purpose of the study is to give the officer a better understanding of the spiritual issues involved in the use of deadly force. The focus is the use of the Holy Bible to allow officers to realize and develop this understanding. Thank you for your interest in this study.
